The long-awaited international triathlon event returns with exciting new features and the unique opportunity to join the Short distance
The Challenge Barcelona Triathlon, one of the most prominent events in the world of triathlon, opens its registration for the new edition to be held on October 27, 2024. Starting today, February 29, the passionate men and women of this sport will be able to ensure their participation in this emblematic competition.
“Barcelona has already reserved a new day in its vibrant sports calendar for this year 2024. Just a few days after closing the 37th Copa América, on October 27 the city will once again be at the center of sports news with the new edition of the Challenge Barcelona Triathlon. Today we open registration and the countdown begins for this great test that last year managed to exhaust numbers and grew very significantly. Our city will once again vibrate with triathletes from all over the world who will not want to miss one of the most exciting and beautiful competitions in the world,” declared the Councilor for Sports, David Escudé.
Special price for a limited time
From February 29 to March 31, 2024, participants will be able to take advantage of a special price when registering for any of the distances confirmed for this edition:
- Short: 1.500 meters of swimming course with 2 laps, 56 kilometers of cycling circuit with 5 laps and 15 kilometers of the running section with 3 laps.
- Olympic: 1.500 meters of swimming course with 1 lap, 40 kilometers of cycling circuit with 4 laps and 10 kilometers of the running section of the race with 2 laps.
- Sprint: 750 meters of swimming course with 1 lap, 20 kilometers of cycling circuit with 2 laps and 5 kilometers of the running section with 1 lap.
- Junior Challenge: 300 meters of swimming course with 1 lap, 9 kilometers of cycling circuit with 1 lap and 1.5 kilometers of the running section with 1 lap.
- Aquathlon: 750 meters of swimming course with 1 lap and 5 kilometers of the running section with 1 lap.
Participation in each of the distances will be individual, with the exception of the Olympic and Sprint which can also be done in pair or relief mode.
Unique opportunity to participate in the Short
One of the big news this year is the opening of 80 places for non-professional athletes in the Short distance. Those people who want to register for this distance will have to meet two fundamental requirements: be federated triathlon athletes and accept and comply with the cut-off times and regulations established for this distance.
One more year, the Challenge Barcelona Triathlon will distribute 25,000 euros in prizes for this Short distance, which will also count towards the World Challenge Bonus, an initiative that Challenge Family offers elite athletes the opportunity to compete for a ranking with a prize pool of 125,000 euros. On the other hand, the test will also be scored by the PTO Ranking, the Organization of Professional Triathletes, and will qualify for The Championship of Challenge Family, an annual championship that brings together the best triathletes in the world in Samorin (Slovakia). .
Junior Challenge and Tri Expo
As already happened in the 2023 edition, the Challenge Barcelona Triathlon will once again offer an option for the youngest with the aim of promoting and bringing this test to teenagers while they enjoy the best scenery and with maximum safety. Thus, boys and girls between 12 and 17 years old who wish to participate have the option of doing so with a Super Sprint distance with the same services as adults.
In addition to the competition, one more year the Tri Expo will return, the triathlon fair that will take place on Friday, October 25 from 3 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, October 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the La Mar Bella Municipal Sports Complex, where both triathletes and fans will be able to access the Fair for exhibitors of specialized sports equipment and also the merchandising of the event.
