The event, which is establishing itself as one of the city’s premier sporting events, will once again have its hub at the CEM La Mar Bella, where all the weekend’s events and activities will take place. The big new feature of this edition is the inclusion, for the first time, of the Middle Distance, a middle-distance event that combines a 1,900-meter swim, 88 kilometers of cycling, and 21 kilometers of running. Specifically, the cycling segment of this event will start and finish in Barcelona and pass through Sant Adrià del Besòs, Badalona, Montgat, El Masnou, Premià de Mar, Vilassar de Mar, Cabrera de Mar, and Mataró. With this format, Barcelona takes a step forward to position itself among the major international triathlon capitals.
The Councilor for Sports, David Escudé, emphasized that this will be a historic edition: “This weekend, Barcelona will experience a triathlon that is very different from all the other editions held until now. A lot of work has been done to offer this new half-distance event, which will be a qualitative leap forward for the Challenge Barcelona Triatló. We arrive in Mataró convinced that it will be worth it and that it will be a huge incentive for both the participants and all the citizens who follow this event and who will be able to enjoy the spectacle and the excitement firsthand in the streets of our city.”
