Sustainability plan

Challenge Barcelona Triathlon is firmly committed to sustainability. We are a sporting event that not only celebrates effort and personal achievement, but also respect for the environment. As we move towards a more sustainable future, we are taking concrete steps to reduce the environmental impact of the event. Below, we explain the actions we are implementing to make this triathlon a greener and more responsible event:

Public transport and bicycle parking

To make access to Challenge Barcelona Triathlon easier and reduce the carbon footprint of transportation, we encourage the use of public transport. All participants and spectators will be able to travel for free on TMB (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona), including metro, buses and trams. Additionally, during TriExpo days, there will be a secure bike parking area, promoting cycling as an eco-friendly and practical alternative.

Reusable material T-Shirts

The official race t-shirts are made with reusable materials, combining quality with environmental responsibility. They will also be delivered without plastic packaging, helping reduce unnecessary waste.

Reusable bags for participants and finishers

We have designed a reusable finisher bag, suitable for daily use and aimed at reducing single-use plastic. The participant bag, distributed at TriExpo, follows the same principles of sustainability and reuse.

Compostable cups at aid stations

All cups used at the aid stations will be compostable, making them easier to recycle and helping reduce the environmental impact.

Sound limiter

To protect the well-being of participants, local residents, and urban wildlife, we have implemented a sound limiter at the start and finish lines. This ensures that noise levels comply with local regulations.

Sustainable Generators

The power generators used at the start and finish areas will be electric, and the others will run on clean fuels, significantly reducing CO₂ emissions.

Other Sustainable Initiatives

Recycling points

Separate recycling bins will be available at the start and finish areas to promote proper waste separation.

Reusable signage

Most of the signage and graphic materials will be stored for reuse in future editions.

Eco-friendly and local aid station supplies

We use local, seasonal products to minimize transport-related emissions and support the local economy.

Separated aid stations

To improve selective waste collection, there will be separate stations for liquids (water and isotonic drinks) and for food (gels, bars, and fruit).

Reusable timing chips

The timing chips used by participants are durable and reusable, designed for long-term use.

Digital communication

All event promotion is carried out through digital platforms and social media, reducing paper use and increasing communication efficiency.

In short, Challenge Barcelona Triathlon is not only a top-level sporting event, but also a model of sustainability and environmental responsibility. With these and many other initiatives, we aim to build a greener future for everyone.
