41 athletes from the ACELL Federation complete their challenge after four months of adapted training and join nearly 3,000 triathletes on 26 October
The Challenge Barcelona Triatló 2025 once again proved that sport is a powerful tool for social transformation through a new edition of the Triatló Sense Fronteres (Triathlon Without Borders) project, reaffirming the event’s commitment to inclusion and equal opportunities. This year, a total of 41 athletes with intellectual disabilities from the ACELL Federation took part in the races held on Sunday 26 October, experiencing a day full of emotion, effort and collective recognition.
A consolidated project: Sprint Relay and Sprint Pairs participation
Participants were distributed across:
33 athletes in the Sprint Relay modality (11 teams)
8 athletes in Sprint Pairs (4 pairs)
They all shared the course with nearly 3,000 triathletes competing in the Middle Distance, Sprint Distance and Junior Challenge.
Four months of adapted training
For four months, ACELL athletes followed an adapted training programme supported by coaches from PROAM, including sessions in swimming, cycling, running and transitions.
A day filled with energy and emotion
The 26 October event, initially marked by rain and colder temperatures, put every athlete to the test. Despite the weather conditions, the 41 participants of the Triatló Sense Fronteres project completed their races with remarkable determination, teamwork and enthusiasm.
A strong commitment to inclusion
Driven by the Challenge Barcelona Triatló, the ACELL Federation, and supported by Fundació “la Caixa”, the Triatló Sense Fronteres project reinforces its mission to promote diversity and accessibility in sport. The goal is to ensure that athletes with special needs can compete safely, confidently and on equal terms.
Following the success of this year’s edition, the Challenge Barcelona Triatló remains committed to expanding this initiative and promoting a triathlon that embodies the values of diversity, perseverance and inclusion that define the sport.
