The Challenge Barcelona Triathlon is gearing up once again, and among the variety of events and courses across the Catalan capital, one category is capturing everyone’s attention: the Middle Distance.
Following its successful introduction in the previous edition—which marked a milestone by adding the middle-distance race to the event program—we are celebrating its second edition this year, cementing its status as one of the circuit’s most compelling and attractive offerings.
A distance for everyone: Individual or relay
The Middle Distance (1.9 km of swimming, 90 km of cycling and 21.1 km of running) combines the demands of an urban circuit with the spectacular nature of the Barcelona coast. Visiting the waters of Barcelona is a unique experience that allows you to enjoy the Mediterranean Sea and the horizon of the city of Fonts. Afterwards, the cycling sector offers a completely flat, quick and easy ride to the traffic on the N-II, ideal for speeding up, getting comfortable and making the most of the bike in a 100% safe way. Finally, the foot race runs along Passeig Marítim de Barcelona, a vibrant tram that touches the sea in the heat and the fans’ crits engage the triathletes with each crossing in order to create the finish line.
One of its greatest advantages is its versatility:
Individual: For those triathletes who want to challenge the limits and complete the test from start to finish.
Relleus: An ideal option to compete as a team. It allows the three sectors to be divided between two or three participants, sharing the emotion of the course and enjoying an incomparable sporting and festive atmosphere.
Bet on professionalism: Middle Distance PRO Category
The growth of the Challenge Barcelona Triatló is accompanied by support for the elite triathlon. The trial includes the Middle Distance PRO mode, reserved for professional triathletes looking to measure themselves on a fast, technical and international Challenge Family circuit.

€25,000 in prizes: A boost for international talent
One of the major attractions of the Middle Distance PRO is the €25,000 prize purse, distributed equally among the top finishers in the men’s and women’s categories.
This financial allocation not only rewards the efforts of elite athletes but also elevates the event’s competitive level and establishes Barcelona as a key fixture on the international calendar.
Prize distribution for the PRO category (Men and Women):
🥇 1st / 1st Ranked: €5,000
🥈 2nd / 2nd Ranked: €2,900
🥉 3rd / 3rd Ranked: €1,900
4th / 4th Ranked: €1,200
5th, 6th and following positions: Additional amounts to complete the total purse of €25,000.
